Rhesus Monkey Chondrocytes
 (MrC)

Rhesus Monkey Chondrocytes (MrC) are derived from normal rhesus monkey articular cartilage. They are cryopreserved at first passage and can be cultured and propagated at least 10 population doublings.

Marked differences were found among the cell cultures of various mammalian species with respect to cell morphology, growth in cultures, adhesion to flask surfaces, response to vitamin C, and chondroid expression in spinner bottles1. Haemarthrosis was studied by autologous whole blood injection into femorotibial joint2. Topological quantitative magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) relaxation time assessment demonstrates bright signal for histological proliferating MrC versus low signal density for regions of collagen condensation3.
